10 LESSONS TO KNOW FROM BEST AND WORST STYLISH CELEBRITY

From expertly executed casual looks to the right way to suit up for fall, here’s what you can learn.

Benedict Cumberbatch

This is downright masterful layering and color play. The blues and grays keep things muted but sophisticated, and everything fits perfectly. If you’re not sure whether you can throw on that extra layer this fall, look to Benedict Cumberbatch and know that you can.

Steven Yeun

One of the best things about the colder months is the opportunity to embrace heavier fabrics and more pronounced textures. Take a page out of Steven Yeun’s book and try a gray flannel suit with a tweedy tie. Keep it appropriately refined with a crisp white shirt, and bonus points if you bring in a pair of cap-toe dress boots.

Norman Reedus

Norman Reedus is a very cool guy. (We can say this with authority because he came by the office not long ago.) But this is not a cool look. When it comes to tailoring, the black-on-black-on-black thing needs a crossbow arrow through its heart.

Bryan Cranston

This isn’t a total brick, but Cranston could’ve used a belt to make it feel a little more polished. While we’re all for skipping one with a suit—especially one with tab-front trousers—here it gives the impression that he decided to tuck his shirt in at the last minute and wasn’t fully prepared for the consequences.

The black-and-red Air Jordan 1 was one of this fall’s most anticipated sneaker releases, an homage to the banned sneakers that launched His Airness’ footwear dominance. Clearly Michael B. Jordan knows this, allowing the sneaker that almost bears his name to shine by keeping the rest of the outfit simple and subtle.

Ben Affleck

Oh, man. Just a couple of weeks after we speculated that we may have passed peak Sad Affleck, it looks like he’s back. How else do you explain those tragically sloppy jeans?

Jesse Metcalfe

Holy shit. Does Jesse Metcalfe actually read Style Lessons? Because last week we told him to stop stacking his jeans on top of his Chelsea boots, and this week he’s pulled them down—and looks about 100 percent better. Nicely done, Jesse.
